ESG and climate disclosure for mainland companies listed in Hong Kong

Mainland companies listed in Hong Kong

Mainland companies listed in Hong Kong

If your group is incorporated or controlled from the Mainland and listed in Hong Kong, you sit between two disclosure worlds. The Exchange’s ESG Code — including climate-related expectations — still has to be evidence-ready in English and Chinese, while the board needs a clear view of oversight, data, and risk. We help issuers close that gap without turning reporting into a checkbox exercise.

Most issuers on the Hong Kong market are mainland-related. That does not mean every disclosure pack looks the same. H-share, red-chip, and mainland private groups often face the same practical questions:

Aligning HKEX and Mainland disclosure

How do we align HKEX ESG Code expectations with Mainland sustainability reporting where both apply?

Climate data and Part D staging

What must be ready for Scope 1 and Scope 2, and how should we stage climate-related disclosures under Part D?

Ownership of narrative and evidence

Who owns the narrative — board statement, metrics, bilingual drafting, and the audit trail behind the numbers?

For company secretaries, IR, and finance teams, the cost of a late or thin pack is not only reputational. It shows up in board time, assurance questions, and follow-up from stakeholders who read Hong Kong filings first.

How we help

We work as Hong Kong–based advisers for listed issuers. Our work for mainland-related groups typically covers:

ESG reporting support

Scope the data you actually need, structure the report against the HKEX ESG Code, and draft bilingual narrative that boards can stand behind — not a template dump.

Climate-related disclosure

Map Part D themes to your operations, build or tighten GHG and climate data tables, and set a realistic roadmap when mandatory and “comply or explain” expectations differ by issuer profile.

Governance and internal control

Strengthen how ESG and climate risks are overseen, documented, and linked to internal control and risk processes — in language that matches Exchange and regulatory expectations, without naming peers or auditors.

And more

Where needed, we support related work such as financial translation and valuation coordination through specialist partners — part of what we mean by Advance with AMMO – ESG & More.

FAQs

Do mainland-related issuers listed in Hong Kong follow the HKEX ESG Code?

Yes. If you are listed on HKEX, the Exchange’s Environmental, Social and Governance Reporting Code applies to you as an issuer, including mandatory and “comply or explain” provisions as in force for your financial year. Mainland incorporation does not replace those Hong Kong obligations.

What should we prioritise for climate-related disclosure?

Start from the Code’s current requirements for your board and reporting year — including mandatory Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas disclosures where applicable — and plan Part D climate-related content on the timeline that matches your issuer category. We help you turn that into a data and drafting plan, not a prediction of future rule changes.

How should A+H issuers think about two reporting regimes?

Treat Hong Kong and Mainland requirements as a mapping exercise: one evidence base, two presentation needs. Gap analysis early reduces duplicated fieldwork and conflicting board narratives.

How is AMMO different from a report-template vendor?

We advise on scope, controls, climate and ESG narrative, and bilingual delivery for Hong Kong-listed issuers. Templates alone rarely survive board or assurance scrutiny when evidence is thin.

What languages do you work in?

English and Chinese. Our website keeps English, Traditional Chinese, and Simplified Chinese on separate pages so each market reads cleanly.

How do we start?

Write to us with your year-end, listing status (including A+H if relevant), and whether climate or full ESG is the immediate priority. We will propose a scoped next step.

Talk to us about your next ESG or climate reporting cycle.
